The Ripple
Watering The Seed Podcast - Coach D. Jackson
Have you ever wondered why certain struggles seem to run in families? Why cycles of anger, silence, abandonment, or even poverty show up again and again, like unwelcome guests at the family table?
That’s because pathologies—the unhealed wounds and patterns passed through generations—don’t stop with one person. They ripple. They shape bloodlines.
In Episode 1: Awareness, we learned to name what pathologies are and recognize the fruit showing up in our lives. In this second episode, we’re going deeper into the impact on bloodlines—because what goes unhealed in one generation often resurfaces in the next.
Scripture Insight
Exodus 20:5 says: “…the iniquity of the fathers upon the children, to the third and fourth generation.”
This verse is not about God punishing children for their parents’ mistakes—it’s about ripple effects. Unresolved trauma doesn’t vanish. It passes through stories, behaviors, and silence. What one person ignores, the next person often inherits.
A Story of Inheritance
Consider a woman named Denise. Her mother abandoned her when she was young, leaving a wound of rejection. Denise grew up believing she wasn’t enough. To fill the void, she became a people-pleaser, desperate for love and validation.
But when she married, she chose men who mirrored her mother’s absence. Her daughter, Jasmine, grew up watching her mother settle for scraps and learned, without words, that love was conditional.
Three generations. One cycle. A single seed of rejection producing fruit of absence, people-pleasing, and settling. This is the impact of pathologies.
Breaking the Silence
Pathologies whisper through families:
- A father’s anger becomes a son’s temper.
- A mother’s silence becomes a daughter’s inability to speak her truth.
- Poverty becomes a mindset passed down like an heirloom.
We often dismiss it with, “That’s just how we are.” But no—it’s just how we’ve been taught. And unless someone breaks the cycle, the story keeps repeating.
Reflection Question
What cycles do you see running through your family? How have they touched you, and how might they be touching those who come after you?
As you reflect on these questions, take time to journal this honestly. Remember: awareness is not about shame, it’s about clarity.
The cycle may have started before me, but it will not continue through me. I am the cycle breaker. I plant seeds of healing for future generations.

Seeds, here’s the truth: If pain can be passed down, so can healing. If pathology can ripple through generations, so can purpose. The question is—what inheritance are you leaving behind?
Episode 2 of How Did You Get Here? challenges us to recognize the weight of our influence. We can’t change the soil we were planted in, but we can decide what grows next.
Your healing today becomes the fruit your children—and their children—will one day harvest.
