When Weeds Take Over Your Garden
Watering The Seed Podcast - Coach D. Jackson
Have you ever looked up and realized life has gotten a little...overgrown?
Not in a bad way exactly—but cluttered, cloudy, off-center. You’ve built a beautiful life, checked off goals, nurtured relationships, and maybe even collected a few trophies along the way. But still, something feels off. That deep sense of alignment—that “I know I’m exactly where I’m meant to be” peace—has quietly slipped out the back door.
That’s where I found myself one summer afternoon in my brother’s front yard. I saw what I thought was a beautiful young tree and praised the new landscaping—only to find out it was a weed. A whole, 5-foot-tall weed that had grown wild while no one was looking. And that yard? It became a metaphor for what happens when life gets busy, pain sets in, or our purpose gets put on pause. Weeds sneak in.
Sometimes they’re disguised as comfort zones. Or people-pleasing. Or staying in that “secure” job that quietly drains your soul. Sometimes they show up as unspoken resentment, overcommitment, or self-doubt. And like that weed in the yard, they can grow big before we even realize they’re choking out our joy.
The good news? You can take your garden back.
That’s the heart of realignment—not just doing more, but digging deeper. Seeing what needs clearing. Reconnecting with what sets your soul on fire. Pulling the weeds. Nourishing the roots. Choosing purpose again, and again, and again.
Here’s how to begin:
1. Reflect. Where have you grown beautifully? Where have you overgrown?
2. Reignite your passions. What still lights you up inside?
3. Reclaim your values. Define what truly matters to you now—not 10 years ago.
4. Set meaningful goals. Not for clout. Not for applause. For alignment.
5. Protect your soil. That means boundaries. That means pruning. That means love with limits.
6. Act with intention. Even a small step is a holy seed.
7. Water with compassion. Be gentle with yourself while you grow again.
This isn’t about fixing your life. It’s about tending to it—honestly, lovingly, faithfully, authentically. You are the gardener. The seed is still there. And when you water it...It blooms.
It's not our job to reap the harvest...But merely to plant the seed, and water it!
